I’m fairly new to anti-capitalist philosophy and practices, but I’ve been following the “psychedelic renaissance” and the accompanying studies and literature for a couple of decades now. The last graphics in your article (Nation State vs Anarchist Ecological models) remind me of the brain network communication diagrams that were illustrated in a study on psilocybin (https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rsif.2014.0873 - scroll to section 6. Discussion for the one I’m talking about). But basically, the study showed that subjects’ default processing networks/pathways were expanded and compounded exponentially. Obviously in the case of psychedelics, that can be a net positive OR negative experience depending on mindset of the subject, the setting of the experience, and positive integration support.
But I found it interesting that the models resemble one another so closely, and because I have been helping people integrate psychedelic experiences (unofficially for over 25 years, and from a more trained/culturally aware/trauma informed perspective for a few years), seeing it illustrated this way really helped me understand how to begin to integrate more anarchic and community based principles into my work and life.
Hi, Ayesha. I’m Tina, from instagram as titigo57. I commented on the instagram version of this post, but I don’t think I asked it properly. So I wanted to clarify here.
In places like Europe, cultural/ethnic identity is very much intertwined with state/national identity (Danes/Denmark, Serbs/Serbia, etc). This has spawned fascism (both past and present), as well as anti-migrant groups who seek to “preserve and protect” their culture.
How would Europeans then come to embrace their cultural/ethnic identities (whether Swedish, Latvian, or Greek) in an anarchic society?
Cultural identity doesn’t have anything to do with a made-up border or nation state that enforces power over people. Culture comes from community & connecting with people, land, traditions & none of that requires a hierarchical oppressive government to exist to coerce people into obedience. Nation states actually violate and cut across cultures which is the cause of endless violence & bloodshed like the partition of India and Pakistan. When people have freedom of movement & are able to build community around their local system, diversity of cultures are free to thrive without being forcefully and violently homogenized under a single national identity. Culture is not a monolith & as this newsletter explains, nation states lead to erasure of the diversity of cultures & traditions to enforce a dominant one that makes people easy to govern and control. People having culture has nothing to do with creating made up lines in the ground- the latter is about asserting power and control over people. This all becomes abundantly clear if you read into the basic principles of anarchy- there’s a link in my IG bio to the anarchist library FAQs. And a lot of people are deeply entrenched in oppressive systems including colonialism and capitalism- that doesn’t justify their existence.
Andy fisher- radical ecopsychology. If you haven't heard of him already check out his lecture on youtube.
He's talking about we're discussing here.

Thank you!
